Former NBA star Jayson Williams was sentenced to five years in prison for the shooting death of his limo driver, Costas Christofi, back in 2002. This is truly a sad and unfortunate story for both families. Accounts of that fateful night say Jayson was fooling around with a shotgun when it fired off in the limo, shooting and killing his driver. Christofi’s family accused Williams of never really apologizing for the incident, and his sister even held up a picture of Christofi during the trial. Williams did finally offer a teary-eyed apology, but it was too late. The ballplayer was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and four other charges of attempting to cover up the fatal shooting. Even though he got a five-year sentence, Williams could be up for parole in 18 months, something the Christofi family is definitely not happy about. How sad that one mistake could cause one man to lose his life and another to lose his freedom…well, for five years anyway.
