Oh no! David Beckham will most likely miss the World Cup and most, if not all, of the Los Angeles Galaxy season after tearing his left Achilles’ tendon Sunday. He was on loan to AC Milan when, according to Us Weekly, Beckham “trapped a pass with his left foot, took an awkward step back and then stepped forward before he started hopping on his right foot.” Ouch! He was set to be the first English player to appear in the World Cup four times, but the chances of that look bleak. “We have to wait for the results of the scan, but it looks like he is out of the World Cup,” Fabio Capello, Beckham’s national manager, told Us Weekly. “David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup, so missing it will be a big blow.” The soccer guru will fly to Finland, where he will be treated by specialist surgeon Dr. Sakari Orava. Rest assured soccer fans. A person familiar with the injury told the Associated Press it’s likely the 34-year-old midfielder will play again. Thank goodness!

The Cristian Rivera Foundation Gala

The Cristian Rivera Foundation is proud to announce its first-ever gala is taking place tonight, September 29, at Manhattan’s Eden, located at 264 West 47^th Street between 8^th Avenue and Broadway. The venue holds special significance as it was the site of Cristian’s fifth birthday party. The gala will serve as a tribute to the life of Cristian Rivera, as well as a fundraiser towards finding the cure for pediatric brain tumor Pontine Glioma. The event will take place from 6pm to 10pm, with open bar throughout. Hosted by comedian Ruperto Vanderpool, the gala begins with a cocktail hour from 6-7pm, followed by dinner catered by celebrity chefs Ricardo Cardona and Alex Garcia. Entertainment will be provided by Raul Acosta/Oro Solido and his Orchestra, as well as other top-name DJs and performers. Guests will have a chance to bid on rare sports memorabilia, including a Derek Jeter jersey, A-Rod’s bat and soccer balls signed by David Beckham. Confirmed guests including New York City mayoral candidate Bill Thompson, Luis Guzman, Frank Reyes and Fat Joe will be joined by Cristian Rivera Foundation Committee members John “Jellybean” Benitez, Jim Jones, Fernando Ferrer, Victor Martinez, Jimmy Rodriguez, Vic Latino, DJ Funkmaster Flex, and others.

Spice Girls World Cup

When the Spice Girls finished their reunion tour last year, it seemed like the famed girl group had disbanded for good. But we at V2 are hearing that might not be the case. Scary Spice Mel B. and her husband Stephen Belafonte are rumored to have worked out a very lucrative deal to bring Girl Power to next year’s World Cup in South Africa.  Britain’s The Sun reported that “Mel’s determined to get the girls back together for the World Cup and wants them to plough ahead as a foursome if Victoria doesn’t want to take part. She has got the others excited by the idea of a one-off appearance. They are very interested.”

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham is often seen on the sidelines of soccer games, watching hotty husband David, but will she also be a spectator at this game? Or will she, Geri, Emma, Mel B. and Mel C. Spice Up Your Life one more time?

Since her days as “Posh Spice,” Victoria Beckham’s been known for a few things—crazy fashion, a stick-thin frame, and her famous pout. But don’t call her a sourpuss just because you never see her cracking a smile. “Maybe it’s the way my face falls, I don’t know,” Beckham told the ladies of The View, adding that, contrary to her image, she’s actually quite the jokester. “Everybody says ‘David’s so handsome and she’s so funny’ – I’m sick of being the funny one,” she said.

Speaking of those famous clothes, the pop-star-turned-fashion-designer admitted, “I think it’s the way I was brought up…when you travel you always look nice. I always have a tracksuit or my pajamas in my bag, so I go into the toilet – I’m a bit like Superman when I get in there, I put on something comfortable.”

Laughter, tracksuits…what will we learn about Victoria Beckham next?
